CENSORING MYSELF 2020
自我审查 2020
Type: Editorial Design, Book Design
Year: 2021
This is a project about the General Rules for the Review of Online Audiovisual Program Content in mainland China. As everything people are exposed to in their daily lives is being constantly blocked and restricted due to extreme audiovisual censorship. It draws on and references national audiovisual censorship systems, Textbooks for the Children of Taiwanese Businessmen in Mainland China, various film and television content tampered with by 'mosaics', books on related subjects, the development and history of mosaics and Asterisk.
In the form of a publication, the author has selected all the photos from last year's (2020) mobile phone albums and created a series of "asterisk stickers" for self-reflection and blocking according to censorship. There are also instructions for viewers to use.
The project aims to interrogate in a satirical way. Is the world really a better place simply by forcibly blocking out what seems to harm the modern "mosaic culture"?
